EMMA DONOVAN + SINGING OUR FUTURES (Fundraiser)

Emma Donovan leads the festival’s opening night celebrations and lends her support to the ‘Singing Our Futures EP launch’ on the night.
Over the last year the Archie Roach Foundation has been hard at work with the inaugural program ‘Singing our Futures’ (SOF), which is a mentorship experience that helps emerging First Nations artists on their songwriting and recording journeys. This year’s artists include Kee’ahn, Kiwat Kennell, Madi Colville Walker, Ridzy Ray and Maylene Yinarr.

Music Victoria will once again host the Leaps and Bounds Industry Day at Music Market in Collingwood Yards.
The event will be an opportunity for City of Yarra venues and their teams to network and learn about the current developments within the Victorian music industry.
The day includes sessions presented by VMDO, The Archie Roach Foundation, Arts Access Victoria and Green Music Australia.

MAKEPISI: THE SPIRIT OF AFRICAN VOICE

Makepisi is a five piece acapella line up singing contemporary and traditional South African songs.
In the style of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the group showcases this assembly of powerful black voices. This is a space for the artists to share their culture with the audience, through song and discussion.

A female-identifying, Asian, queer composer and saxophonist, Cheryl studied jazz performance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts from 2009 – _2011, completeing a BMus – Honours in 2016 at the Victorian College of the Arts (MCM), graduating with First Class Honours.

Spunk are an all-girl punk group, who focus on lifting each other up and writing phat, catchy riffs. Come together at the catfish on 15th July, to observe SPUNKFEST.
A Femme Affair: A night celebrating female singer songwriters in Naarm. Exploring their creative process and experiences, breaking down boundaries between audience and performer. Featuring a diverse lineup of established and emerging soloists: Tanya George Madi Colville, Sara Jane, Marlee Grace, Tyller Fischer and Danni Thomas.
Shane Lestideau, violin, and Donald Nicolson, piano, explore the Scottish Fantasias of Australia’s Baillie Collection. This is the music that entertained audiences in Rockhampton and Brisbane’s Wintergarden Theatres in the first decades of the 20thC, blending virtuosic showmanship with beloved Scottish tunes. Played on a fiddle that had been part of the Baillie family for generations, this program recreates the sound world of the travelling entertainer and the delight of those who came to hear it.
