Percussive podorythmie (foot percussion), energetic ‘chopping’ (percussive bow) and imagination. Big Fiddle Little Fiddle (Jessica Foot, 5-string fiddle & hardingfele, and Louise Godwin, cello) is on a quest to show audiences of all ages just how much fun a violin and cello can have together.

Artist Bio

Big Fiddle Little Fiddle is a six-year collaboration between Jessica Foot (5-string fiddle & hardingfele) and Louise Godwin (cello). The duo has a reputation for joyful performances featuring eclectic fiddling styles, chamber folk, driving rhythms, and soaring melodies. In addition to drinking hundreds of cups of tea together in Louise’s kitchen, the duo has recorded a CD, presented regular house concerts, performed in venues ranging from The Mozart Hall in Warrnambool to the Melbourne Recital Centre Salon, and appeared on festival stages from Majors Creek Festival in NSW to the 2022 3MBS-FM Music, She Wrote Festival here in Melbourne. The duo performs inventive arrangements of trad tunes interwoven with original and contemporary Australian tunes. With their feet firmly planted in the Scottish fiddle tradition - taking inspiration from Quebec, Ireland, Scandinavia, and Middle Eastern modal folk styles - the duo loves to push the sonic and creative boundaries of the cello and violin together, playfully exchanging musical roles and voices.

Big Fiddle Little Fiddle regularly collaborates with a tea party of musicians from different realms in folk, traditional, improvisatory, baroque, classical and new music. The duo’s first album, The Kitchen Project, featuring percussionist Volga Tunca was released in October 2018. Since then, the duo has collaborated with Claire Patti (harp, voice), and Merran Moir (whistle, bagpipes, accordion). Plans for a second album are afoot.
