Remembering Liszt, On the Situation of Artists, and on Their Condition in Society.
The recent disruption to our lives has brought our values into sharp focus. Whilst we have been apart, we have not been alone. We have been sustained by ideas, creativity and by music. We remerge with a strengthened resolve, with greater clarity and focus.
The Op Shop Piano Rhapsodies are inspired from the writings of Franz Liszt, the young prodigy who wrote a series of essays in 1835 extolling the importance of artists in our society.
Over 10 days five pianos will be installed across the city. In this period, professional artists will perform surprise concerts. We also invite members of the public to play as they wish.
This series of surprise concerts in unusual settings are a gift to the community.
This is music for challenging moments.
This is music to soothe our longing for lost times.
This is music to celebrate artists and their place in our society.
Op Shop Piano Rhapsodies is supported by On the Road Again, a Victorian Government initiative to bring live music back across the state.
