Afrosphere
Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Leaps and Bounds present a night of Afro Jazz and beats at the Abbotsford Convent.
After a hugely successful collaboration in Burnley Park over summer, Yarra is teaming up with Melbourne International Jazz Festival yet again for an unmissable night of body-moving music featuring The Experience and Ausecuma Beats.
The Experience brings together future legendary musicians heading into the prime of their careers. Inspired by his father's words to share culture as a way to bring encouragement following the challenges of 2020, ZII, who is also a talented rapper/poet and founder, set out to write music that would bring life to a world that journeyed through a global pandemic and a racial reckoning, to say the least.
Ausecuma Beats are more than just a band, they are a philosophy. Led by their fearless bandleader and master djembe player, Boubacar Gaye, the nine-strong ensemble demonstrate what can happen when a group of artists come together based on an idea – in this case, the idea of place, of transplanting cultural heritage into a contemporary city.
Afrosphere is supported by On the Road Again, a Victorian Government initiative to bring live music back across the state.
PUNTER BYO GUIDELINES
This year, we’re partnering with B-Alternative to reduce our impact on the Earth. By aiming for a plastic-free and low-waste event, we’re able to save tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions as well as massively reduce landfill.
In an effort to eliminate as much packaging as possible, this event chooses to reuse! By serving your delicious meals & drinks in reusable vessels, we’re able to reduce our waste and therefore carbon footprint significantly.
You can help us make a difference in the following ways:
Reduce or eliminate plastic you bring to site, especially plastic bottles and food packaging
Choose to reuse where possible, including BYO reusable water bottles and containers
Keep it clean! Separate your waste out with the help of our Bin Fairies so we can recycle as much as possible. Avoid putting butts in bottles, food in landfill, and plastic in the compost.
When in doubt, ask! Our friendly staff are there to help you
